New home for Lincoln Gym Club after 20 year search

The Lincoln Gymnastics Club, which had been searching for a permanent base for the past 20 years, now has a new home thanks to Lincoln developer and landlord, Taylor Lindsey Limited.

Alastair Twell of Taylor Lindsey handed over the keys to the newly refurbished 6,000 sq ft premises at 111 Sadler Road, Lincoln, formerly occupied by a mail order firm, to club officials.

For the club and its 180 members it has been the successful end of more than a 20 year search to find premises of their own after having to train at the Yarborough Leisure Centre and North Kesteven Sports Centre over the 25 year life of the club.

“Following 20 years of looking, negotiating and disappointments, Taylor Lindsey came to our aid and accepted the challenge to help the Club during 2005/2006.  Without their help the Club would not have been able to achieve its goal. Not only have they provided a suitable building for lease, but have helped both with finance and work to complete the project,” said Alan Hutchinson, the Club’s head coach.

“We were delighted that we were able to solve the problem of suitable premises for the club. However, it was not straight forward, as we had to obtain a change of use for the building from industrial to a gym club. Lincoln City Council was supportive of the proposal. We subsequently carried out refurbishment works to complete the transformation”, said Alastair Twell of Taylor Lindsey.

“Moving into our own premises will enable the club to take in more children from the 400 long waiting list we currently have.  It will also enable the club to broaden its gymnastic disciplines and train gymnasts with physical disabilities,” said Alan Hutchinson.

Lincoln Gym Club, which has a long and proud tradition of competition success, both within the county, regionally and nationally, trains male and female gymnasts between 5 and 18, catering for both recreational and competitive gymnasts.

Last year the Club became the first Lincolnshire club and fifth in the East Midlands region, to achieve the British gymnastics GymMark and Sport England Club Mark, which is a recognised accreditation for a safe, effective and child friendly club, providing a service to the community, that children and young people, their parents/carers and others with an interest in gymnastics, can trust.
